Flat Slot Screw Metric Machine Thread Blue Zinc Plated

Flat slot screw is the screw with flat-headed and slot drive. The slot screw drive has a single slot in the fastener head and is driven by a “common blade” or flat-bladed screwdriver. It was the first type of screw drive to be developed, and for centuries it was the simplest and cheapest to make. The slotted screw is common in simple woodworking applications but is not often seen in applications where a power tool would be used because a power driver tends to slip out of the head, potentially damaging the surrounding material. The tool used to drive a slot is called a common blade, standard, flat-blade, slot-head, flat-tip, or “flat-head/flathead” screwdriver. Zinc coatings prevent oxidation of the flat slot screw by forming a barrier and by acting as a sacrificial anode if this barrier is damaged. Zinc oxide is a fine white dust that (in contrast to iron oxide) does not cause a breakdown of the substrate’s surface integrity as it is formed. Indeed, the zinc oxide, if undisturbed, can act as a barrier to further oxidation, in a way similar to the protection afforded to aluminum and stainless steels by their oxide layers. The majority of hardware parts are zinc-plated, rather than cadmium-plated.
Hot-dip galvanizing is the process of immersing iron or steel in a bath of molten zinc to produce a corrosion-resistant, multi-layered coating of zinc-iron alloy and zinc metal.  While the steel is immersed in the zinc, a metallurgical reaction occurs between the iron in the steel and the molten zinc.  This reaction is a diffusion process, so the coating forms perpendicular to all surfaces creating a uniform thickness throughout the part.
