Hollow Shaft Grooved Tube Carbon Steel Black Galvanized Shaft

Hollow shaft is having a through-hole which is concentric with the external diameter of the shaft. While a solid shaft doesn’t contain any through a concentric hole inside it. The only feature left with the solid shaft is its the diameter (you don’t need to mention ‘outer diameter’, if it’s a solid shaft).
For a hollow shaft, we have two features, viz, inner diameter (I.D.) and outer diameter (O.D.), using which one can find the thickness of the shaft. The thickness of the shaft (t)= (O.D. – I.D.)/2
A hollow shaft may be of two types, seam welded pipes or seamless pipes. It mostly depends upon their manufacturing processes.
Due to seam welds, some amount of impurities are added into the material of the shaft which makes it vulnerable to failures and impacts. For high-performance characteristics, seamless pipes or shafts are recommended. As far as performance is concerned, the torque transmitting capacity of a hollow shaft is greater than that of a solid shaft. Galvanization, or galvanisation, (or galvanizing as it is most commonly called in that industry), is the process of applying a protective zinc coating to steel or iron, to prevent hollow shaft rusting. The most common method is hot-dip galvanizing, in which parts are submerged in a bath of molten zinc. Galvanizing protects in three ways:
It forms a coating of zinc which, when intact, prevents corrosive substances from reaching the underlying steel or iron.
The zinc serves as a sacrificial anode so that even if the coating is scratched, the exposed steel will still be protected by the remaining zinc.
The zinc protects its base metal by corroding before iron. For better results, the application of chromates over zinc is also seen as an industrial trend.
